Native Americans lived in the Mountain West region before Europeans arrived. They lived off the land and hunted Buffalo. When Europeans started moving west, the Native American way of life soon changed. Their was fighting over the land and resources. In the beginning, travel to the west was difficult. Only brave men and women settled in the west. When gold and silver was discovered, more settlers came. Town grew almost over night. Eventually, railroads were built connecting the east and west. Travel became easier and faster and the west grew.
