The Mountain West regon is not a leading argicultural region in the United States. The cool, dry weather and the rugged, hilly land make growing many crops impossible. In spite of these difficulties, there is still farming in this region. Infact, many states lead the market in production of certain crops. The land in the Mountain West region makes excellent pastures for raising livestock.

Agriculutre is Montana's number one industry.  A large portion of Montana's land is used to grow crops including sugar beets and wheat.  Ranchers also use their land to raise cattle, sheep and other livestock.

Idaho is famous for growing potatoes. More potatoes are grown in Idaho than in any other state in the United States. Agriculture and food processing is Idaho's largest industry. Other important crops in Idaho are sugar beets and beans.

Agriculture is an important industry in Nevada. Range livestock production is important in Nevada. Cattle and cows are the leading industry. Crops are grown in areas where irrigation can be used. Crops include potatoes, barley, wheat and corn.
