We the students of South Pekin Grade School
interviewed a police officer, Rich Homerin. Most of the police officers
carry a 45 cal. Plus they carry a 12 gauge. The 12 guage is not always
loaded it is attached to the cage, they keep it locked. In order
to shoot someone it has to be a life threatening situation. Nobody
has been shot to his knowledge. An officer has never been shot.
They are part of the Crime Stoppers. So they get a reward if they turn
in a bad guy. They don't get extra money for a drug bust, but they
do get over time pay. The officers have a lot of discretion when
it comes to arresting someone. The police can get in a lot of trouble
if they don't arrest someone with a cause. Rich Homerin can leave city
limits if he is chasing someone. The police don’t know if there is
a drug problem in South Pekin. Mark Morger is the police chief.
The reason the police patrol the area is to prevent problems before they
happen. Inside the squad car they have three radios and one
place where they can put a laptop computer.
