This is about train wrecks There are mostly derailments,
faulty equipment, and train robbers. These are all tied into derailments.
The faulty equipment is when a switch goes part way and the track is not
completed. The train is tipped over. Train robbers did this
by tearing a piece off. Indians did this to keep trains to stay out
of their territory. One crash was done deliberently to gain publicity.
It was called THE GREAT CRUSH CRASH. It was done in Crush, Texas
in 1896.
A man called William George Crush was convinced
that he could make money off a crash. His idea was correct but it
was also dangerous. On September,15,1896 40,000 spectators came,
and it was great. Two trains came heading right at each other.
When they crashed pieces flew everywhere. Only two people were killed,
and a photographer was hit by a flying bolt that poked his eye out.
He was known as the one eyed Deane.
