The mayor of our town is Rick Huse.  His duties as a mayor are to oversee the board meetings.  He also is a liquor commissioner.  In other words, he is top of the pyramid.  Their are six trusties and the mayor on the village board. 

The duties that the village board do are to take care of buildings, grounds, streets, and alleys.  The village also owns the sidewalks and the area between them.  They depend on the residents to help take care of them.  Therefore the village doesn't own everything.  For example,  they don't own the white building by the tracks.  The school owns that.

The village spends a lot of money each year.  For example, last year they spent about 1.358 month to month, and a year to year bases. They will spend about 2.3 million on sewers.  Also they spend about 700,000 dollars a year on taxes. 

If South Pekin does end up getting sewers, it would cost every household 32 dollars per month.  South Pekin could be getting more businesses when we get sewers.  To describe, we could actually be getting a McDonalds, CEFCU, Laundry Mats, etc. About the time we will be getting these things will be around May of 1999.

The board also owns the park. In conclusion the park is only open during the days due to vandalism. For example, people have lit the picnic tables on fire, they have trashed the rest rooms, and broke lots of lights. In addition to that the rest rooms at the park are only open from 8A.M.-3P.M. They also decide on who paints the park. One year they painted the park purple and yellow for a joke. Only because none knew what color to paint the park.
