The oldest kind of housing in South Pekin was boxcar houses.
Around 100 boxcars were put on the east side of the tracks and was known
as McFaddens Flats. That was before the town was named South Pekin.
The oldest house in South Pekin was first built by William Sprau. The
house was built in 1914.
This is the oldest house as it looks now. It is 84 years old. The people
that live in it now are Joseph and Armande Basso.
