As part of the Our Town Unit, the fifth grade classes worked on a project concerning recycling in our community.  We kicked the project off by picking up trash around the school and in the town's park.  Then we classified what we found and analyzed the data by creating graphs using Kid-Pix and The Graph Club.  We also visited the local recycling center (Mahoney's) to see the recycling project first hand.  After our visit to Pekin Recycling, we developed a HyperStudio presentation to illustrate and explain various recyclable materials and terms.  Finally we culminated the unit of recycling by participating in Environmental Education Day at Pekin Memorial Arena in Pekin.
