Local Farms
By Braden Thomas
In the Illinois area there is a lot of farm ground.
The crops they are grown are corn, beans, greenbeans, sweet corn, popcorn,
seed corn, and peas. This past season which is the 98 season has
been real wet. In fact we have had carp up in our fields from drainage
ditches. Some farmers in the spring lake bottoms use drainage pumps
to pump out the ditches, but sometimes it rains faster than they pump.
Around here most people farm with International and John Deere.
First and second grade students learned about Illinois farm products
by collecting food labels with corn and soybean ingredients.
