Farming in the New England Region
 
 
 
Farmers in the New England region face many challenges. The weather is cooler than other regions and the soil is rocky. The growing season is shorter than in other regions too. In spite of these challenges, there are lots of farms in the New England region. Farmers in this region raise animals, sell animal products and grow crops for money.
 

Dairy farming is the most important kind of farming in New England. The most dairy farms are in Vermont. Milk from the New England region is used to make cheese, butter, ice cream, and other milk products.
 

Most of the potatoes in the United States are grown in the New England region. Maine farmers are very successful at growing potatoes. The soil near the Aroostook River and the short growing season are great for growing potatoes.
 

Farmers in Massachusetts grow tomatoes, corn and cranberries. Farmers in Maine are successful at growing apples and blueberries.
