is the capital of Massachusetts. It is the largest city in the New England
region. Boston is located in the eastern part of the state near the Charles
River. The city is on a natural harbor opening onto the Massachusetts Bay.

It is a leader of industry, commerce, culture and education in the New
England region. Many universities and high-tech businesses are located
in Boston. Computers, electronics and engineering all play a role in Boston's
economy.
Hartford
is the capital of Connecticut. It is located in the north central part
of the state near the Connecticut River. It is known as the "insurance
capital of the world." Hartford is the commercial, financial and manufacturing
center of Connecticut. Aerospace equipment, industrial machinery, and firearms
are all manufactured in Hartford.
Montpelier
is the capital of Vermont. It is located on the Winooski River near the
Green Mountains in the central part of the state. Montpelier is a commercial
and insurance center. Granite making is Montpelier's most important
industry. Tourism is important to the cities economy. Barre
is another city in Vermont. It is near Montpelier. It has the world's largest
granite quarries. Major manufactures include granite building stones, memorials
and statues.
