Weather in the Middle
Atlantic Region
The weather in the
Middle Atlantic region is affected by the Great Lakes, the mountains and
the Atlantic Ocean. The climate on the coast is dependent on the
ocean. Winds off the ocean warms the coast in the winter and cools it in
the summer. The Atlantic Ocean makes the Middle Atlantic coast have a very
wet climate. This means a lot of rain and snow in the winter. In the mountain
areas of the region, cold and snow mean valuable business for the ski industry.
Most of the region gets very cold in the winter. But there is a strip of
warmer weather right along the coast. In the spring, the temperatures are
cool. Fruit trees bloom everywhere. The Middle Atlantic region gets very
hot in the summer. Occasionally, hurricanes are a threat to the Middle
Atlantic region.
