Mrs. Williams/Mrs. Spanos- Room 103-

ECE-  The students have created a “Weather Book”- looking out a window at a sunny, rainy, cloudy, & windy day.  They have also kept track of daily weather and posted the information on a weather calendar.

Mrs. Diehl- Room 104-

1st Grade-  The students have created a KidPix slide show about different kinds of weather.  The students wrote reports and made graphs, cloud pictures, and a weather map.

Mrs. Troxell- Room 105-

1st/2nd Grade-  The class kept a weather log for the month of April.  The information was used to make graphs using Graph Club.  The students also prepared a play about the weather.

Mrs. Webb- Room 106-

Kindergarten- The class made windsocks after discussing the wind and tornadoes. They experimented with temperature by painting 1 rock black and another rock white. The rocks were put in the sun. The class discussed how color we wear may keep us cool. Students kept a weather journal for a week by drawing a picture of the weather each day.

Mrs. Williams- Room 107

4th Grade-  The class did a variety of scientific experiments.  The class wrote directions for the experiments so visitors could try them out during the Open House. These experiments included making a barometer and a seismograph as well as demonstrations showing how snow and hail fall through the air.

Mrs. Wesso- Room 108

3rd Grade-  Students have created a KidPix slide show about clouds.  The students have written stories and made clouds.

Mr. Ozog- Room 109

2nd Grade-  The class explored: the types, or stages, of a tornado; the Fujita Scale; how clouds form; storm types; and tornado safety.  Students have created “cloud mobiles” and tornado booklets.

Mrs. Gluba- Room 110

3rd/4th Grade-  Students have created a slide show- “How Weather Affects Plant Growth”.  They have created cloud posters.  Students have Chuck Collins’ writing and picture in the hallway.  Student experiments and write-ups.

Mrs. Barth- Room 207-

6th, 7th, & 8th Grades-  Students have written reports about tornadoes.  Reports are displayed on the bulletin board.

Miss Hibser- Room 208

5th Grade-  Tornado Trivia; Tornado Safety Rules; May 10, 2003 South Pekin tornado papers; Line graphs showing average high temperatures from 1950 – 2000; weather journals

Mrs. Betson- Room 206

4th & 5th Grades-  The students read the book Twister on Tuesday.  They wrote a journal page about a storm that had an effect on them and made a picture to go with the journal page.

Ms. Sidell- Room 209

8th Grade-  Each student wrote a poem about the weather.  These poems are displayed on the bulletin board in the classroom.

7th Grade-  The class read the book The Cay and wrote hurricane haikus.

Mrs. Uftring- Room 204

6th Grade-  “The Tornado Terminators”  have created safety brochures (watch vs warning, preparedness).

7th Grade-  Students have created display/information boards on: Fujita Scale and how a tornado forms.

Mrs. Moore- Room 210

7th Grade-  The students each wrote a short essay on their feelings and emotions during the tornado and its aftermath.  The essays are mounted and displayed throughout the classroom.

Ms. Blair- Room 200

8th Grade-  Students have used Excel to compute Geometry formulas.  They have also used Excel to convert temperature from Fahrenheit to Celsius and Celsius to Fahrenheit.

Mr. Henderson- Room 201

6th Grade-  Groups were assigned a different region around the world.  Each group researched and analyzed how the climate affects the lives of the people.  Posters were created to show the information.

7th Grade-  The class has been studying Southeast Asia.  Students created a PowerPoint presentation or poster to show the weather patterns/storms and the effect on people in the region.      

Weather/Tornado Resources- Web sites containing information about tornadoes, the weather and related topics. Each site listing includes a brief description of the contents of the site

Peoria Journal Star article- The Peoria Journal Star has allowed us to include a recent article and pictures regarding the condition of South Pekin 1 year after the 2003 tornado.
